Widows Sons, Ridings Chapter

The Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association (MBA) is an organisation established for Freemasons who have a passion for motorcycling. To qualify as a member you need to be a Master Mason (of the United Grand Lodge of England) in good standing in your own Lodge and run a road-worthy motorbike capable of maintaining the national speed limit. Basically, we are a masonic association.

The Widows Sons MBA is divided into geographical chapters. This website is intended to cover the Provinces of Yorkshire, North and East Riding and Yorkshire, West Riding, hence The Ridings. The term 'riding' is of Viking origin and derives from Threthingr meaning a third part. Hence the divisions of North Riding, East Riding and West Riding; apparently the Vikings didn't have a South.

The Ridings Chapter is an autonomous group with its own set of by-laws, but is part of a wider community. The Widows Sons has over 700 members in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. It has been growing at a phenomenal rate since its establishment in 2004 as Freemasons realise the benefits of mixing their interest with the Craft and motorcycling. Our only motorcycling affiliation is to the BMF (British Motorcyclists Federation).

In the Ridings Chapter we have over 30 members and cover the entire age range, professions and motorcycle brands. Our activities include ride outs, rallys (including the Widows Sons MBA National Rally), Wednesday nights at Squire's Cafe (Sherburn), or Jem Speed at Batley Thursday nights at the Ham and Cheese pub in Scagglethorpe, as well as socials with other Chapters. Basically, if you are a Mason in Yorkshire, possess a motorbike and a sense of humour we'd like to hear from you. And yes, we even allow brethren with Harleys and BMWs to join.
